The right way to travel
Before I began creating my own detailed itineraries, I had taken a birthday trip with my husband to Charleston for a few days. Before leaving, we made a list of everything we wanted to do while there, and believed that when we arrived, we would just "go". Our plan was to wake up, choose where we should go for that day and head out.
Because I love anything to do with history, Fort Sumpter was obviously the first on our list. To our surprise, they were only open from 10-5 and in order to get there, you had to board a scheduled ferry. It wasn't until the last day of our trip that we could actually make it, almost missing the one thing I wanted to do most. With many historic cities, both US and abroad, the top rated places are only available for select hours and some may close in the middle of the week. This was where I saw the need to put tight and detailed plans in place.
I have always said that with a "whole world full of things to see, there is not enough time to go anywhere twice, so I have to plan each trip in a way that allows me to maximize the full experience." This was the one trip that I had to do over due to not being able to experience everything the first time around.
